    1 mile = about 5280 feet. (which is the unit used in the stats menu)

    The best way to grind this is just keep going forward forever, I think it takes around 5 minutes at max speed to go 500 feet.
    If you need to back off for a while, you can leave the game running and you'll slowly gain distance (about 0.5 feet every few seconds, this is REALLY slow so active grinding is still preferable)
